It looks like the same problem is affecting some other code as 
well in things like KProcIO, DCOPClient and some other places 
(usually just one or two methods in the rest of the affected 
classes - doesn't affect most classes). The problem has been 
characterized better, but it's probably still a day or two away 
from a permanent fix, probably not involving handwritten code.

There'll be an rc2 release as soon as this is all fixed.
