Sorry Phil, if you are reading this for the second time, but I meant to 
send it to the list and not just yourself.

Do you think that we will see QMacCocoaViewContainer return in some 
future release of PyQt5?

It would be really helpful to me and perhaps others if it did support
this. I'm using the python bindings for VLC
(http://liris.cnrs.fr/advene/download/python-ctypes/) to embed this
video player in my application and using QMacCocoaViewContainer has been
the only way that I've been able to make this work in OSX. It is also
the only thing keeping me from moving to PyQt5 at the moment, although
I've had some success in using QVideoWidget as a replacement for VLC.
More work and testing required to be sure...
