[PyKDE] sip configure problem

Hi, I'm trying to install sip 4.2.1 and pyQt 3.14.1on my mac running OSX 
10.3.9  I've installed Qt sucessfully and have run the demos.  However, when 
I try to configure sip I get the following error

Error: /usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.0.0/mkspecs/default/qmake.conf: macro
'[QT_INSTALL_HEADERS]' is not defined.

Hving trawled through this list I can't find anyone else who has had this 
problem.  Any ideas what I am missing here?
