Eric4 (and eric5) need a network connection to talk to the background 
(debugger) process, which is responsible for the interactive Python shell as 
well. However, it is sufficient, if this network interface is the loopback 
device (127.0.0.1). Eric4 can listen on all network interface or just a 
specific one. That can be configured on the Debugger->General page of the 
config dialog.
