Thanks for your quick reply. Here is my follow-up.

This hardly works as I would expect it to. If I try to add a directory to the source tab, I can only add .py files.. The filetype combobox in 'Add Directory...' does not reflect the changes to the Filetype associations. 
Further, if I want to add a directory that is already there, the directory will be added twice.
And the only way to recursively add any file under a directory is to ever only use the 'others' tab and add it there.

Okay.. but is there any way to use the Log Viewer (I'm not trying to debug, I'm running the script.)?  For heavy output, the shell isn't great.
